Why 357
When the United States was founded, the total population of our original 13 states was around 3 million. Among that relatively small number of citizens were George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, John Adams and many, many more who would be considered giants of any era. Were we just fortunate to have such an enormous pool of patriotic talent or does every generation harbor an equal array of capable people? We believe that given the right circumstances, similar giants would emerge.

The United States population is now around 300 million. Based on numbers alone we should expect to find 100 George Washingtons, 100 Thomas Jeffersons, 100 Benjamin Franklins and so on. Therefore it should be an easy task to find 357 American citizens to put the interest of the country ahead of party interest, self interest or special interest.

So, what is the magic of the number 357? Well, simple majority support is required to pass any legislation in Congress, but to have a mandate for true success you must have a "veto proof" majority. Our Constitution dictates that to override a presidential veto, two thirds of each house of Congress must vote to approve the bill. There are 435 members of the House of Representatives and 100 members of the Senate. Therefore 290 House members and 67 Senators for a total of 357 members of Congress would create a veto proof majority. With such numbers we could pass any law, change any House or Senate rule or even pass a Constitutional amendment if necessary. So, only 357 members of Congress who agree with our mission will guarantee that we could make the fundamental changes needed to achieve our goals.
